True Beauty

A few weeks ago, my roommate and I were discussing how so many people, especially young ladies, have fallen into this world of "selfies." We talked about how they take so MANY pictures of themselves and that many of the pictures don't even look like them. Part of the reason is because they are worried about looking good and what others will think of their outer beauty.

We all do this in one way or another, trying to let the world around us only see the "good side" of us. But, we need to stop being "conform[ed] to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [our] minds," (Romans 12:2a). Our outer beauty is not what defines who we are as a person. We are defined by Jesus Christ and the person he is creating us to be (our inner beauty).

We don't need to "be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. [But] should clothe [our]selves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God" (1 Peter 3:3-4).

In  this age of social media (facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.), we have been so caught up in the idea of how many followers or "friends" we have and what they think of us. So, let's make a conscious decision to stop being so consumed with outer beauty and instead focus on showcasing our inner beauty. We should only be concerned with God's view of our life and remember that our true beauty is found within.
